It began when one woman said yes to an improbable inspiration at 5 a.m. and followed it wherever it led: to Macau, to an endangered cuisine, to a singer she had never met 9,000 miles away, and ultimately to a project that reshaped her next five years.
The book is both memoir and invitation — a record of what happened when a deferred dream was finally given its moment.
It invites readers to rediscover all that becomes possible when we say yes to the unexpected and let inspiration guide us into our next chapter.

In its quiet arrival, it led me back to a dream I had set aside decades ago. And long before that, another unexpected kindness set my feet on the path I still walk today. These gifts ask only one thing of us: to hold them with gratitude and to carry their light forward when we are able.
And so, in honor of the people whose generosity shaped my life, I am donating 100% of my book royalties to children’s literacy programs, a cause that has been close to my heart for nearly thirty years. It feels right that the gift which returned me to my words might help place words into the hands of children.
